Title
Peace Park : with the Atom Bomb Dome. [Picture].
Collation
1 tapestry. col. ; 80 cm x 45 cm (tapestry) ; 84 cm x 48 cm (framed).
General Note
Tapestry depicting the Peace Dome in Hiroshima. One copy framed, one copy unframed on backing board.
Unframed tapestry includes following commentary in English and Japanese: "The pictorial designs of the tapestry represent the Peace Memorial Park of Hiroshima City, with the Atomic Bomb Dome standing in the foreground. The area now occupied by the Peace Memorial Park is located at the center of the down town area, which used to be the busiest section of the city until the atomic bomb completely destroyed it. After the war, this whole area was turned into the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, with a number of peace memorial institutions and monuments, among which the most notable are the Peace Memorial Museum, the Peace Memorial Hall and the Cenotaph containing the Roll of Names of the A-Bomb Victims to whom it is dedicated. The Atomic Bomb Dome is the remnant of a building called the Hiroshima Prefectural Industry Promotion Hall, where numerous arts and crafts produced within Hiroshima Prefecture used to be exhibited. It is the only building left in Hiroshima showing the scars of the disaster and is conserved by the City of Hiroshima as a symbol and a warning to all mankind that atomic energy should never be used for destructive purposes. Mayor of Hiroshima City."
