Summary Note "On November 19 1938 180 men and their families in Port Kembla, an hour south of Sydney, refused to load pig iron for Japan on the Port Kembla wharf. They believed the pig iron was being used as bullets and bombs during the takeover of China and they believed Australia would be next. Robert Menzies, Attorney General and Minister for Trade at the time was responsible for getting the men to load as the contract was signed with Japan and Australia was alone in a boycott of this nature. What plays out on the local level is a drama between Ted Roach, Union leader and Communist Party Member and Bob Menzies, United Australia Party and Barrister. Although a local story, this is a story of international significance as personal stories from the Nanjing Massacre touch your heart, the central theme is peace." -- Container.
"The film includes rare interviews with family members of the men, Port Kembla families, Chinese survivors of the Nanjing massacre - filmed in China, Sir Robert Menzies' daughter Heather Henderson, Japanese Prisoner of War and MP Tom Uren (RIP) Maritime Union officials, David Kemp MP, historians Glenn Mitchell and Stuart Macyntire and other interested and local members of the community." -- Container.
