Summary Note
"The development of this book was inspired by the ground breaking work of Beverly Derewianka who wrote 'Exploring how texts work' (1990) which gave primary teachers the tools for working with genres, and the language to talk explicitly about texts in their classrooms. Aimed at primary school teachers, educators and preservice students, 'Put it in writing' builds upon that work. It provides models, guides and processes for teachers and their students to enable them to give serious and careful thought to the texts they are reading and writing. In expanding upon the contribution of 'Exploring how texts work', this book investigates a range of genres across curriculum areas, incorporates the notion of stages with the flexibility of phases for looking at text structures. It also engages with multimodal and visual texts and draws further on a functional approach to language, such as recent developments based on appraisal theory. In doing so, it supports knowledge and processes for implementing the Australian Curriculum: English." - Back cover.
