Summary Note Among the findings identified in the Executive Summary are: "Agencies should continue to reduce employees’ excess annual leave balances. The increase in the total cost of workers' compensation claims by 36 per cent to $57.8 million in 2015–16 was driven by a rise in psychological injury claims. The Department will receive funding of $330 million over 2016–17 and 2017–18 to address increasing backlog maintenance in schools ... The [Before and After School Care] Fund has allocated around $2.0 million in grant funds and created 6,000 out of school hours care places as at 30 June 2016. The Department should reassess current strategies for achieving performance targets relating to the reading and numeracy skills of NSW students. The student population in Sydney is growing at a significant rate. The ten year growth rate is 11.4 per cent. The Department is developing strategies to cope with this growth in student numbers." - p. 4.
