General Note
Photograph of the artist Paul Beadle, at work making Memorial Plaque commissioned by Soldier Teachers' Memorial Fund. This framed picture reprints the photograph and article from Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate, Friday September 30, 1955.
From May 25 2017 the picture is on display with Memorial Plaque in the Teachers Federation Conference Centre.
Text of newspaper article: "Memorial in maple: Mr. Paul Beadle, Newcastle sculptor, at work yesterday on bas-relief carved in Queensland maple, which will be a memorial to soldier-teachers of the two World Wars. The memorial, a bas-relief depicting a soldier resting and holding open a book is 5 feet long, 2 ft. 6 in. wide and 3 inches deep [1.5 m x 76 cm x 7 cm]. It was commissioned by the Soldier Teachers' Memorial Fund and will be unveiled in Federation House, Phillip Street, Sydney, on November 11. The work is almost completed." - Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate, Friday September 30 1955.
