Summary Note
The book is the first to document nearly 150 years of sport at an Australian university. Students at the University of Melbourne have achieved at the highest levels of competition, and have been influential as administrators shaping the nature of sport in Australia. From the colonial era when the young gentlemen of the colony saw themselves as English through and through, through the rise of Australian nationalism and its impact on sport to the modern era, the narrative is as much as social history as a sporting one.
