Summary Note
"When developing intercultural understandings, picture books can be both a: window into other cultures, providing a view of the world through a different lens, and a mirror that reflects back the experiences of other people, which, through reflection, can help the reader better understand themselves and their own perspectives … Two picture books per stage have been suggested as examples. Some of the books are suitable for multiple stages and syllabus content and many of the activities can be applied to other books. It is hoped that teachers will look beyond their stage and subject area and adapt and modify the activities for their students. Other picture books suitable for developing intercultural understandings are listed in the 'Guide to using picture books in Geography K-10' and the 'Guide to using picture books in History K-10'." - p. 3.
