Interview by Peter West as part of the Federation's Oral History Project.
Summary : Born in 1934. Attended Enmore Annex at Sydney Teachers" College and began teaching in 1953. Commenced his career at Epping West Primary School. Very active in Federation almost immediately. Secretary of Men's Teachers' Association 1959-62. Took part in a number of campaigns including equal pay and all of the major salary campaigns, including the 1968 strike. From 1963 was successively Secretary and President of the Deputies Association, then Secretary and President of the Principals' Association until 1976. He was Federation President from 1976-81. The issues were improvement of educational conditions, reduction in class sizes etc. and the campaign for the Education Commission. Talks about the effect of the OECD Advisory Committee on Education on Australian education.
