Maths problem solving for higher achieving students : space, measurement, logic, chance & data / Ian Bull.
"Using a three-tiered structure, the books [the other is 'Maths problem solving for higher achieving students : number'] provide materials and experiences to develop the higher order thinking skills of those students who are in need of such enrichment. Section 1 - extension class lessons with differentiated activities at three levels: 12 problems written to a theme with an introductory lesson for all students followed by an application task, an extension task for higher achieving students, then a second extension task for an extra challenge. Section 2 - open-ended tasks: 12 open-ended problem-solving tasks, based on a variety of themes requiring students to work in a more independent manner, and to apply the skills developed in Section 1. Section 3 - reading and comprehension tasks: 6 worded questions, with solutions, based on a variety of themes. The questions are similar to reading comprehension problems, with each requiring a mathematical component to complete the task. The accompanying CD contains interactive whiteboard files to enhance the focus of the lessons, and allow all students the opportunity of engaging with the activity. The files also contain additional class activities, as well as extra introduction examples for some tasks. These extra resources allow a more careful coverage of the ideas and concepts." - Back cover.
