General Note
This research project tracked a cohort of final year (2005) preservice teacher education students through their post-graduation experience up until 2009.
Summary Note
This study, commissioned by the NSW Department of Education and Training, asked the following main question: Why do some early career teachers [ECTs] choose to remain in the profession and why do others choose to leave? The four subsidiary questions were: 1. What are the relevant experiences of ECTs in their first four years of teaching? 2. What influences ECTs to remain in the profession? 3. What influences other ECTs to leave the profession? 4. What strategies might assist in the retention of effective ECTs?
