Text: “Since its election in March 1988 the Greiner government has axed 3000 teaching positions in schools, prepared to sell off Bridge Street, increased the size of composite classes, attacked Daylight Equivalent, hit TAFE enrolments, increased face to face teaching, introduced global budgeting, increased high school teachers to 28 periods, tried to remove our access to the Industrial Commission, denied teachers and academics salary justice, increased the number of composites, even Kindergarten, downgraded libraries, attacked Meadowbank, promoted nepotism, downgraded occupational health and safety, embargoed peace curriculum documents, quickly sold public assets, put real estate ahead of children, demanded trade-offs for salaries, promoted TER, used underhanded methods to break up the statewide system of public education, looked at the cost but not the value of services, attacked women’s programmes, imposed extra work on teachers, closed Adamstown Heights, Balmoral Beach, Castlecrag … and Yeo Park schools and zealously promoted free-market ideology at the expense of public education.
