Summary Note
This document reports the findings from Phase 2 of an Australian Research Council (ARC) funded study entitled, Improving wellbeing through student participation at school. The overall research project aimed to strengthen knowledge, policy and practice concerning student participation in New South Wales (NSW) schools by identifying whether and how such participation improves students social and emotional wellbeing. Phase 2: Qualitative focus groups with students and interviews with school staff and educational policy makers (RQ2) A qualitative phase involving interviews with policymakers, and school staff and focus groups with Year 7-10 students from across 10 schools to understand how student participation is understood and experienced in NSW schools. The findings from Phases 1 and 2 were used to identify the key elements of participation to take forward into Phase 3. [Introduction, ed]
