"The NSW Teachers' Federation was formed on 26th September 1918. Fifty years later to the day and possibly to the hour, over 10,000 members assembled in 5 major centres and by an overwhelming majority requested the Council of the Federation to call for an unprecedented 24 hour stoppage of all members. On September 28th the Council endorsed the recommendation of the mass meetings and on the following Tuesday, October 1st, one of the largest stopwork meetings in the history of unionism in this country was held at Wentworth Park, Sydney. This meeting was one of the most significant events in the 50 years of the Federation." -- NSWTF Annual Report 1968, p. 2. Based on these events, probable date of publication 1968. |
