Summary Note |
"In this book Henry A. Giroux passionately argues that education and critical pedagogy are needed more than ever to combat injustices in our society caused by fake news, racism, consumerism, white nationalism, ultra-nationalism, and the rise of right-wing populism. Central to the book is the idea that pedagogy has the power to create narratives, desires, values, and forms of agency crucial to challenging the resurgence of fascist politics while simultaneously developing democratic mass movements. The book expands on the notion of the plague as both a medical crisis and a crisis of politics, ethics, education, and democracy itself. The chapters cover a range of topics including historical perspectives on fascism, social atomization, depoliticization, neoliberal pedagogy, the scourge of staggering inequality, populism, and pandemic pedagogy. The book concludes with a call for educators and others to reclaim a vision of a radical democracy, and embrace their role as powerful agents of change." - Back cover. |
