General Note This banner has been displayed at the NSW Teachers Federation Annual Women's Conferences and women's marches for over twenty years.
A resolution prepared for Council in March 1985, and discussed by Council shortly after (also March?) included the statement: "The Federation currently does not possess any banners on the theme of women members' rights. The need for such banner becomes obvious on days such as today, when women will be marching in the International Women's Day March. Council therefore resolves to allocate the sum of up to $2,000 for the production of appropriate banners" (NSW Teachers Federation Women's Newsletter, No. 1, March/April 1985, p. 4). A year later, Helen McGregor, the new Women's Coordinator, wrote: "A number of people drew my attention to the existence of Federation's funds for International Women's Day banners approved in March last year, but not spent. I took the matter up with Paula Bloch, federation's [sic] Publication Officer, who was able, in a short space of time, to organise a new Federation banner in colours of mauve and green. It is easy to store and transport and expresses federation's [sic] commitment to equal rights for women" (NSW Teachers Federation Women's Newsletter, No. 2, March/April 1986, p. [5])
Banner has green lettering stitched to a purple background.
