Photograph – Dorothy Peake
Dorothy Peake was employed from sometime in 1954 – until at least May 1956 as Librarian, Teachers Federation Library. Miss Dorothy Peake signs herself as the Librarian in the cover letter to a list of Books sent to Sydney Girls’ High School, dated 14 October 1954 [Document No. 502, Cooper Library correspondence 1933-1963]. An Education article (May 23, 1956, p. 4) notes that Miss D. Peake is still the librarian. An obituary “Dorothy Peake 1930-2014: inspirational librarian, visionary leader, artist”, by Carmel Maguire and Dagmar Schmidmaier, was published in Australian Academic & Research Libraries in 2015. Access via link below. Dorothy Peake was the foundation University Librarian of the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), and a pioneer in implementing automated systems and encouraging the electronic networking of Australian libraries. Filed with collection of historic Teachers Federation Library photographs. Photograph, undated, downloaded from Australian Academic & Research Libraries 2015, available for viewing in library, and via link below.
