Photograph – Fort Street Training College students 1891-1892.
Fine art reproduction by Inkwell, 2022, from digitised copy of original by Keith Dash 1990s. Collection code: Artworks. Dimensions of visible area of photograph 13 x 17 cm. Until the late 1880s, the majority of teachers were trained during a four-year apprenticeship as pupil-teachers (receiving training while they themselves were still students). Selected students then proceeded to one of two of the Department’s training colleges, Fort Street (for males) or Hurlstone (for females) for one year of full-time study. In this photograph Ebenezer Dash is fourth from the left, middle row. Ebenezer Dash (1870-1927) was the second President of the NSW Public School Teachers’ Federation (NSWPSTF). Caption: names of 18 class members.
