Summary Note
The Closing the Gap framework is a national approach to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Australia. The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has developed six targets aimed at significantly reducing the gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, in the areas of life expectancy, child mortality, education and employment. The framework is underpinned by seven Building Blocks that support these targets: early childhood; schooling; health; healthy homes; safe communities; economic participation; and governance and leadership. This fifth annual report - the first under Prime Minister Tony Abbott - outlines progress made towards each target and the new Government's agenda for Indigenous Affairs. Though Prime Minister notes that while progress has been made in some objectives, it is clear that we are still failing in too many.
