Summary Note |
This review was commissioned by the Federal government to examine discrimination related to pregnancy, parental leave, and return to work after parental leave. It provides national benchmark data and analysis on the prevalence, nature and consequences of such discrimination; identifies leading practices and strategies for employers; and provides recommendations for future actions to address these forms of discrimination. Although discrimination relating to pregnancy and return to work is prohibited, it was found that there was still substantial discrimination. A survey revealed that one in two (49%) mothers and over a quarter (27%) of partners reported experiencing discrimination in the workplace at some point during pregnancy, parental leave or on return to work. This adversely affects not only individuals but their workplaces and the national economy. |
