Main text: "Years of solid, patient and unrelenting campaigning by Federation and its members has led to an historic breakthrough for public education - the NSW and Federal governments agreeing to a fairer, needs-based funding system for schools. Federation set itself the task of making school funding an issue that would dominate politics, knowing that scrapping the corrupt Howard-era funding model, which entrenched inequity, would be a game changer for public education students and teachers. When you engaged your communities in the fight for fairer funding for all students in public schools, speaking out for those students with the greatest needs, you made a difference. Your sustained community action sent a loud, clear message to governments that public school teachers believe their students are worth fighting for and deserve the best funding deal possible. Premier O'Farrell acknowledged the influence of campaigning. After signing NSW up to the agreement with the Federal Government, he wrote back to those who had called on him to finalise a funding agreement based on the recommendations of the Gonski Review of Funding for Schooling, saying it 'Could not have been achieved without your advocacy.' So to all our members who wrote a letter, clicked on a link, wore a t-shirt, attended a delegation to a local Member of Parliament, letter-boxed a local area, handed out leaflets at a railway station or shopping centre, joined a community event or had that significant conversation about what the Gonski funding would mean to students in local public schools, be proud of your efforts." -- Maurie Mulheron, President.
Additional text includes: Get on with Gonski; Barry O'Farrell, aren't our kids worth it?; Give a Gonski; Get on board with Gonski; I give a Gonski.
"New South Wales has become the first state to sign up to the Gonski school education reforms, in a breakthrough likely to put added pressure on the other premiers to settle a deal." - Sydney Morning Herald, 23 April 2013.
