Collection code: HSCE HSC English Critical Study of Kazuo Ishiguro's An Artist of the Floating World: a student workbook is mapped to new NSW HSC English Stage 6 syllabus, specifically English Advanced Module B: Critical Study (2019-23 Prescriptions).The unit begins by introducing students to the rubric (language) of the syllabus and connects these to An Artist of the Floating World. Relevant readings that give insights into the text are introduced and explored. Students will consider Ishiguro's personal context and key concepts such as memory and loss as well as the historical and culture context that underpins the novel. Other distinctive qualities such as structure, plot, characters, setting and themes are also addressed. Students will analyse the ideas and concepts conveyed and how these relate to An Artist of the Floating World. The last part of the unit focuses on Paper 2, Section II of the HSC English exam by guiding students through the process of writing a critical study of literature essay.
