Framed collection of badges in support of public education, transferred to library by Paul Robson 5 November 2020. Home-made frame. Creator unknown. Collection code: Artworks Button badge. United in defence of Public Education: August 17 Rally. Refers to August 17th 1988 rally in Sydney Domain organised by NSW Teachers Federation, to protest against the Greiner-Metherell cuts to education. Button badge. Keep Dover Public. Refers to Keep Dover Public campaign, 1982, organised by NSW Teachers Federation, to protest against proposed sale of Dover Heights Boys High School to a private school. Small button badge. Let’s Develop Education. Refers to Let’s Develop Education campaign, 1980, jointly sponsored by the Australian Teachers’ Federation, the Australian Council of State Schools Organisations, the Technical and Further Education Teachers’ Association of Australia and the Australian Union of Students. It had the backing of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. Based on an A.T.F. National Conference decision in January 1980, the objective is: to revitalise a public commitment to public education.
